PAJAM Presents Sing To The Lord
By Renee Williams
PAJAM has been noted as gospel music’s most prolific production team. Made up of super-producers Paul “PDA” Allen, J Moss and Walter Kearney, PAJAM has been at the helm of sacred music’s urban hits. Artists such as Karen Clark-Sheard, Dorinda Clark Cole, Hezekiah Walker, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Byron Cage, Trin-i-tee 5:7, Virtue and dozens more have tapped the expertise of the amazingly gifted production trio.
Inking a deal with Integrity Gospel, PAJAM delivers their first worship CD, PAJAM Presents Sing To The Lord. Containing new compositions and well-known worship tunes, the project displays their superior talents. Busting out of the musical gate with a hand-clapping rhythmic song accented by a slamming beat, Father, is a song lifted up to Jehovah Jireh. It’s a memorable track and an easy one to on which to get your praise on. PAJAM is known for taking traditional elements of gospel music and melding them with serious contemporary sounds. This song is no exception.
Praise Adona, a Paul Baloche hit, is redone and given the PAJAM insurance. A mid tempo track, the arrangement is a mixture of soul and pop with a great hook. This one will be ringing in your head for days to come. Another Baloche hit, Open The Eyes Of My Heart, originally made famous by Michael W. Smith, is included. The threesome retain the CCM ingredients of the record, while introducing it to the Black church with a soulful touch.
Pulling out a winner from Israel Houghton’s musical closet, the song Trading My Sorrows, penned by Darrell Evans makes its appearance on Sing To The Lord. It’s a very polished version of the lively praise tune. Speaking of Houghton, he loans one of his own creations on this project with the inclusion of Sing, originally recorded by Martha Munizzi. Another Houghton gem, All About You, is about keeping our focus on the Lord. Making sure to remind us about what’s really important, this track is one to lift hands to.
The CD provides both uptempo praise cuts and slow, worship tunes. Beautiful songs like I Need You More and Rescue are perfect for that intimate time with the Lord. The listener is easily drawn into the live worship experience on Darlene Zschech’s Worthy Is The Lamb as well.
