Of receiving his award, K-Drama told Gospelcity, “I’m getting an award tonight and this [has really encouraged me] to re-energize and [stay] focused.” His newest release on EMI Gospel, Behind The Glory is a documented anthology of K-Drama’s life. Of his music ministry and purpose, K-Drama writes on his MySpace page, “I just want to make an impact on today’s generation in whatever way I can, K-Drama concludes…if its rap, that’s cool…if its going to a child’s sporting event, that’s cool too… I pray that I write honest songs from the heart [and] alongside that, I strive for my life to be better than the songs that I write.” K-Drama was joined by holy hip hop artists Pettidee, Young Prayzr and others who also performed at the show-stopping event.

Temperatures hit below 30 degrees Fahrenheit during the show, but inside Center Stage Arena, fans raised their hands and praised God for holy hip hop. The positive message that was received emphasized Jesus Christ can be worshipped through this medium with sincerity. Towards the end of the night, the praise party was in full effect. This time next year when the Holy Hip Hop Awards night rolls around, be prepared to attend a full-scale concert and worship service.

Holy Hip Hop Awards Night Produces New Souls For Christ

  2008-04-28

By Em Fergusson

Holy hip hop fans enjoyed another year of week-long events. The highlight of Holy Hip Hop Week took place at Center Stage Arena in midtown Atlanta at the awards show. Despite the wintery weather that kept some honorees from attending the event, fans eagerly took their seats in anticipation of an awards show that proved to be more than just a series of performances. Kicking off the night, holy hip hop artist Canton Jones called on the youth to let go of themselves and allow God to take over.

“You need God down here right now, Jones said, looking down at the assembled youth on the stage floor before the stage, “Get comfortable and let God have a place to dwell!”

Canton Jones poured his heart out to the youth, encouraging each person in the audience to find a praise partner and thank God for that person. The Deerfield Beach Florida native has a lot to be thankful for; as a singer, producer and vocal arranger, he has performed with World Changers Church International under Dr. Creflo Dollar and performed for the likes of Dr. Bobby Jones, Oprah Winfrey, Stevie Wonder and the late Ray Charles. Standing on the stage with a simple green shirt and jeans, Jones’s call to worship set the atmosphere for the night.

Before the awards were given out, Pastor eDDie Vélez joined Canton Jones on stage and called the youth to the altar. Close to thirty people, both young, older and in-between shuffled behind the curtain and up the stairs to re-dedicate their hearts and surrender to Christ. “Whatever you going through, you don’t have to think no more!” Jones said, “God is your father!” The worship soared through the building as new souls were reborn. In addition to the worship, Vélez shared some moving testimonies, encouraging the crowd to, “get rid of Satan in your life!”

Vélez told the crowd that even though awards were to be given out that night, there was no reason why everyone should not celebrate the award of being a Christian and living for Christ. Performances that took place after the service followed the theme of worship. The 2008 honorees included Kay Bizzy, Flame, DJ Sean Blu, Tha GIM, K-Drama, Rev. Rap, Mike Mike, Da Minista, Da’ Truth, Braille, DJ Rapzilla and 116 Clique. The Ambassador Awards were given out to Stephen Wiley and Vic Padilla.
