With all that Hairston is doing, it could become easy to lose focus. “God is at the center,” she says emphatically. “For me, it’s a mission, a calling; it’s a ministry. My goal is to leave a legacy in print that future generations will be able to look at, and say, ‘Oh! So that’s what our foreparents looked like! That’s what they did! Look what they talked about! Wow! They went through some real challenges, but they survived—and we can, too. Gospel Today tells the story of a people and a culture that does great things for God and their community! It’s a publication that is by us, for us and about us.”
