Artemis Gospel & Light Records Become One
Artemis Gospel Joins With Historic Light Records to Merge As Major Force in Gospel Music
Nashville, TN - Artemis Gospel and Light Records will combine into one powerhouse gospel music label under parent company Sheridan Square Entertainment.
Launched in the mid-sixties, LIGHT RECORDS, became synonymous with the best in Gospel music and was home to the time’s most popular artists including Andre Crouch, The Hawkins Family, Commissioned, The Winans, The Mighty Clouds of Joy and so much more. The label churned out massive hits and albums that have since become some of the most influential projects of contemporary Gospel music like “Love Alive” by Walter Hawkins, “Tomorrow” by The Winans; “Ordinary Just Won’t Do,” by Commissioned, and Andre Crouch’s classic “Live In London.”
Today, the historically rooted LIGHT RECORDS unites with progressively dynamic label, Artemis Gospel to create the next great Gospel label, housing under one roof the established talents of Pastor Shirley Caesar and Bishop Paul S Morton with a new generation of Gospel artists RiZen, Youthful Praise, Ziel, Judah Generation, Coko and more. The new LIGHT RECORDS offers a broader view of Gospel music that will include its storied catalogue, and an assortment of traditional, urban contemporary and Praise & Worship Gospel projects.
“In the final phase of corporate realignment after being acquired by Sheridan Square Entertainment, the company is now able to combine the two nameplates under one highly recognized label,” said President of Light Records Phillip White. “The spirit that brought us a new generation of artists and a new sound in Gospel ‘back in the day’ is the same spirit that is bringing us back to the Light Records name as we again embrace a new generation of revolutionary Gospel artists.”
LIGHT RECORDS has been building quietly with a recent staff expansion and new key signings that have positioned the label as one of the highly sought after emergent independent labels. This Summer, LIGHT RECORDS hits the Gospel marketplace with releases from Nashville based youth choir Judah Generation on June 27th and female ensemble group Zie’l on July 25th and will get into the praise and worship and Urban inspired genres with new releases from Judith Christie McAllister and Cheryl “Coko” Clemons respectively.
