Urban Choice Media Launches the New Rejoice Musical Soul Food

  2006-09-20

Dallas, TX - Urban Choice Media, Inc., a positive programming content provider with studios located in Dallas, TX, has officially launched the new Rejoice! Musical Soul Food, a national 24-hour urban gospel satellite radio network formerly operated by ABC Radio Networks. On August 1, 2006, the company began operating the network and in less than 45-days has: retained more than 95% of the stations nationwide affiliated under ABC Radio Networks; acquired six new affiliates that will begin carrying the network in the first quarter of 2007; and assembled a team with more than 350 years of combined media-related experience.

The company was pleased to retain the services of the award-winning Rejoice staff, including the original visionary for the network, Willie Mae McIver, now VP, Radio Programming for Urban Choice Media. Willie Mae has over 26-years of experience as a radio broadcaster. She launched the nation’s first nationally syndicated Gospel radio program, Gospel Inspirations and was the creative force behind ABC Radio’s launch of Rejoice in 1999. She is a member of the National Broadcasters Hall of Fame. McIver received a Stellar Award for the 1999 Gospel Announcer of the Year and The Gospel Music Workshop of America’s Gospel Announcer of the Year for 2000.

“Rejoice continuing on is proof that ‘it is not over, until God says it is over,’” says McIver.” “God has a plan for Rejoice! Musical Soul Food and Urban Choice Media, and I am just glad to be along for the ride.”

“Without Willie Mae our acquisition of Rejoice would not have been possible,” says Travis Mitchell, president and chief executive officer, Urban Choice Media. “It was her passion, excellence and tremendous record of service that inspired us to raise the necessary funding to not only continue Rejoice, but to expand it to new heights!”

Rejoice! Musical Soul Food programming is a mix of today’s contemporary hit Gospel blended with traditional classics, and is targeted to African-Americans aged 25 - 54. Rejoice inspires its listeners through Gospel music from contemporary artists like Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Smokie Norful, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin and Yolanda Adams, along with legends such as Shirley Caesar and James Cleveland.
