Nashville – Nominations for the 22nd Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards were announced today at the annual breakfast press conference held at The Club at Gaylord Springs in Nashville. Stellar Award winners Kirk Franklin and Tye Tribbett revealed nominees.
This year’s list of nominees is a musical potpourri with a mix of traditional, contemporary, urban, rap, hip-hop and jazz artists. Donald Lawrence & The Tri-City Singers dominated the Stellar Gospel Music Awards list of nominees by picking up nine nominations. They are nominated in a number of categories, including Artist of the Year, Choir of the Year, Contemporary CD of the Year and Music Video of the Year to name a few.
Kirk Franklin and Myron Butler each received seven nominations for their CD projects. They both were nominated in the big “Song of the Year” category. Rounding out the nominees are CeCe Winans and Tye Tribbett with five nods each. Winans is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year and Tribbett in the Male Vocalist of the Year categories.
Other nominations include,The Williams Brothers, Yolanda Adams, Israel Houghton, Kierra Kiki Sheard, Shirley Caesar, Martha Munizzi, Fred Hammond, Ramsey Lewis, Lil Rufus, Juanita Bynum, Vicki Yohe to name a few. The taping of the 22nd Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards Show takes place January 13, 2007 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville and will air in syndication from January 27 through March 4, 2007. The awards show will be co-hosted by Kirk Franklin. Performers, presenters and co-hosts to be announced at a later date.
