Author: Bishop T.D. Jakes By Richard Cox Reposition Yourself by Bishop T.D. Jakes is a 278-page turner, written in a very conversational style. There are 15 chapters, divided into 3 parts (The Sky’s the Limit, Beyond the Limits of Mediocrity, Beyond the Limits of Success). Bishop Jakes segmented the book to capture the different stages of our lives. Jakes says, “…none of us welcome regrets. We want to live to the fullest, spiritually, financially, and even relationally. Yet we often settle for less that the best life we could live. Lulled into sleep by a sense of apathetic compliance, we accept limitations situations that could transcended.” This book can become a guidebook in your life to refer back to from time to time. Dr. Phil McGraw, host of the hit TV show, The Dr. Phil Show wrote an inspiring foreword message about Reposition Yourself. He said,” Bishop Jakes exhorts to rise about your challenges, learn from your mistakes, build upon your blessings, and to continuously make adjustments so that you are always on track to serve.” McGraw also noted that the book offers practical guidance to break through whatever barriers that may be encountered in life. The book immediately pulled me in as I read the personal and intimate examples of past struggles Bishop Jakes candidly shared about his life. I felt like a pastor, mentor or friend shared experiences with me from their personal journey of success and failure. Anyone can take this book, at any stage of life, and find something to motivate growth. Jakes shares how choosing God’s path positioned his life in a way he never dreamed was possible. He encourages others to know that God can do the same thing in anyone’s life. He covers the many challenges and fears that stop us from growing and maximizing our goals and visions. It’s a book that will bring about an awakening for everyone. Reposition Yourself explores learning from past mistakes in life and turning things around at any age. He points out that you can only correct what you are willing to confront. The book also answers soul-searching questions such as, “Do you feel like you’re stuck in a job while wishing you had a career?” and “Do you want more out of this phase in your life than what you have now?” This is not a preachy book but more of a self-help guide. It can help you determine what you can do right now to tweak your life. One important point made by Bishop Jakes was “the hardest thing for many of us to do is to reconcile who we are publicly with who we are privately.” Other insightful topics discussed were education, faith, woman, finance, relationships and more. Jakes breaks down many of concepts that were discussed in the book such as fear, navigations systems of life, branding your name for identity and more. He gives effective, easy to understand examples which illustrate his message. You’ll be introduced to personality characteristics you might identify with such as The Distant Dreamer, The Listless Lover, Manny the Manager, and The Blinded Believer. Reposition Yourself will give necessary tools to help you bring about true change in different aspects of your life. Many of the insightful concepts mentioned will bless your life. Reposition Yourself is about evaluating how to improve your quality of life to live without limits. After reading this book, you’ll be passionately motivated to take your life to the next level.
