Do Men Worship God?
By Richard Cox
“A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshippers.” John 4:23 (AMP)
In church, it’s a powerful image to see a man worshipping God. Primarily our congregations are filled with women worshippers. Our brothers do attend church with their families. However, are they coming as spectators or participators in the worship experience? Our spouses and children need to witness men as worshippers. The eyes of our sons and nephews watch our actions. They are looking to see if men are moved by the Spirit to clap their hands, stomp their feet or even wave their hands to glorify God. Our young brothers want to know if being a worshipper takes away from being cool and macho.
It isn’t easy for most men to be free in their worship. There are still perceptions that real men don’t show emotions … it’s more of a woman thing. Over the years, this type of cultural conditioning has “frozen” men in their worship experience. The truth is men can be worshippers. As Christian men, we ultimately want to glorify God in our worship.
Brothers, find time in your day to worship God. Just acknowledge Him as being worthy of your worship. Worship denotes heart-felt feelings of love, reverence, and adoration to God. In Psalm 29:2 (KJV) says, “give unto the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” Singing isn’t the only way to worship God. In the Bible, there are different expressions of worship such as bowing heads, lifting hands, kneeling, playing instruments, dancing, lying prostrate before God and so on. God wants to be at the center of our heart and mind in worship.
Worship is a means created by God to connect with us in an intimate way. As a worshipper you will notice that your home life is better, there’s more peace, joy and fulfillment. Psalm 16:11 (KJV) says, “in thy presence is fullness of joy.” There isn’t an experience we can have on earth that can fill our souls like worship - bowing before God, asking for nothing, seeking nothing from him, feeling satisfied in His presence.
