Margie states, “Life was good. I was singing and performing. But for whatever reasons, I decided that I had enough of label-to-label moves. So, with some young girl unrealistic expectations and accompanying disillusionment, I bowed out of recording and performing for a while. I pursued a variety of careers in education and finally rested in Human Services. My humanitarian attribute was always there dormant beneath the starry-eyed young woman,” she mentions. With the call of music still ringing in her ears, she returned to the industry in 1982 with a HCRC recording, Knockout. The title tune turned out to be one of her best singles to date and remained on the charts for more than 6 months. In 1984, she dropped another project - this one a Narada Michael Walden/Randy Jackson creation called Ready For The Night. Four years later, she was back with Stay, an Ichiban Records release. That project, ultimately, was her last mainstream release.

Joseph has sung, worked with, toured with the legends of soul music including Lou Rawls, Donny Hathaway, Barry White, Luther Vandross, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, The O’Jays, Fats Domino, Blue Magic, just to name a few. Although she’s had successes in secular music that many only dream of, the words of a relative always stuck with her. “My grandmother had always told me, ‘you should be singing for the Lord’”, Margie says. “She said, ‘you know you should not be singing in the world.’ Deep down, I always believed that my grandmother was right.”

Margie Joseph is now following her loving grandmother’s advice. The born-again Christian is preparing to release her first gospel CD, Latter Rain. The CD is a mixture of traditional, contemporary and urban gospel music. Joseph believes this potpourri of sounds gives each listener what they like and believes they will be pleased. Latter Rain, a contemporary title cut with a unique soul beat speaks to the spirit of one who keeps the faith regarding the on-going restoration of God’s people. The fluid sound of the saxophone complimenting Margie’s voice on I’ll Bear You Up comforts the soul of the listener. With much conviction, Margie beautifully paints a picture of the believer’s redemption in When Jesus Walked, He Walked For Me. This CD exemplifies the sincerity of Margie’s stance and faith. Gospel fans are sure to be delighted with the traditional songs Walk Around Heaven and Mahalia Jackson’s signature song Move On Up A Little Higher. Joseph has really put her heart and soul into this one and demonstrates her leap of faith into the gospel arena. What a jump start!
