Former Prince Backup Singer Niyoki Set for National Debut
My Everything to Release August 29th
Nashville, TN – Casual observers and many industry insiders might consider touring with Academy and Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Prince to be the pinnacle of achievement. But for world-class vocal stylist Niyoki, true success means being in the center of God’s will. Although grateful for the successes she had enjoyed in the general market, Niyoki felt drawn back to her Christian roots and began work on a solo project with which she could share a message of hope and praise. The result is My Everything, a project which releases August 29, 2006, on D2G Records, showcasing Niyoki’s amazing talent and depth of experience.
Niyoki is a fresh and compelling voice in contemporary Christian music, making music that blends infectious R&B/hip-hop grooves and soaring gospel inspiration that is sure to inspire gospel and CCM music lovers alike. Her album, My Everything, reveals a woman who is passionate about sharing the riches with which she has been blessed. Niyoki’s music is joyful, hopeful and inspirational, capturing the essence of what it means to be unafraid of facing the toughest tests life has to offer and unwilling to stop at anything short of triumph.
“There are worship, traditional gospel, foot-stomping church songs and songs with an urban grooves,” Niyoki says of her debut project. “The title cut has a jazzy vibe that I love. I love the title, My Everything, because I put everything I had into this album. More importantly, it is called My Everything because the Lord is my everything.”
More than just a song stylist, Niyoki had a hand in writing and producing all the songs on the album, injecting each one with the unwritten complexities and multiple challenges inherent in songs of faith, hope and love. “I feel close to God when I’m using the gift that He’s given me,” says Niyoki of her music.
The songs on the album touch on issues such as preparing ourselves for Christ’s return, getting back in touch with our faith no matter where we are in our Christian walk and knowing that we are all worthy of Christ’s love. Whether sharing her a cappella song “Yes Lord,” the devotional tune “Praise Time” or the classic “Amazing Grace,” Niyoki evokes a passionate love and reverence to the mighty Creator throughout the album. The world-class grooves on songs such as “Dance and Praise” make for a truly joyful noise, and guests, such as Prince drummer Kirk Johnson and members of Niyoki’s own family, appear in supporting roles throughout the CD.
