Stephen Hurd’s New CD My Destiny Debuts at #11

  2006-10-16

Washington, D.C. – Praise and worship artist, Stephen Hurd’s latest single, “Great Praise” is doing….great things at gospel radio. The rousing single just came in at #43 on the Media Guide gospel radio airplay chart and the singer’s new CD “My Destiny” (Integrity Gospel) has just debuted at #11 on Billboard magazine’s gospel albums sales chart – his highest charting project to date.

It’s a fete that would have made Hurd’s mother proud. She was always his biggest supporter. Whatever he wanted to do in life, she was in favor of it. When she died of a chronic lung disease when he was a sophomore in college, Hurd sank into a deep depression because his biggest cheerleader was no longer there to cheer him on.

In the ensuing weeks, Hurd’s faith strengthened his resolve to make his mother proud by further developing his love of music. He twisted his father’s arm to buy him a piano, and the now twenty-year musical ministry that has produced four CDs and taken him around the world, was born. Hurd has battled many hardships in his life, but it’s the music and his Christian faith that has always helped him cope and overcome whatever he was facing.

That passion is evident on the new CD, which was recorded at Temple of Praise in Washington, D.C. with renowned producer Steven Ford. The project contains new songs, most of which were written by Hurd, along with spoken word messages that focus on the listener uncovering his or her’s calling in Christ.

“The song “My Destiny” is a positive declaration,” Hurd says, “confirming that we receive His plan for our lives even if it is not yet clear or is still being revealed to us.”

“You can’t sit and passively listen to this project,” says Integrity A&R Director Chris Springer. “Stephen won’t let you. He pulls you in at every turn.”

Hurd currently serves as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Landover, Maryland. His prior project, A Call to Worship, reached #15 on the Billboard gospel album sales chart and spawned the smash gospel radio single, “Undignified Praise.”
