Formed in 1994, the Ministers of Music was created by visionary Patrick Lundy. His God-given vision was to assemble “ministers of music” to sing the praises of God. Lundy, from Washington, D.C. and a graduate from Howard University, has seen much success in the gospel music industry. Currently the Asst. Minister of Music at Reid Temple AME Church in Glenn Dale, Maryland, under the very capable musical headship of gospel pioneer Myrna Summers, Lundy is no stranger to the genre. Since the group’s inception, the choir has sung for such notables as Kirk Franklin, Jennifer Holliday, Donald Lawrence, Vickie Winans, John P. Kee & New Life Community Singers, Donald Malloy, LaShun Pace, Albertina Walker, Wintley Phipps, Betty Griffin Keller, Delores Barrett Campbell & The Barrett Sisters and the late Rev. Donald Vails. Known for their ear-catching vocals, breathtaking songs and musical versatility, Patrick Lundy & The Ministers Of Music (MOM) have been one of gospel’s best kept secrets. With their latest venture from Meridian Music Group, In The Fellowship, it seems the cat has finally been let out of the bag.

Recorded live at National Church of God in Fort Washington, Maryland, the group starts of this praise-worthy collection of music with the bold and dynamic title tune, In The Fellowship. Deftly interweaving an urban groove with unapologetic Christian lyrics, it’s a true head bobber. The choir-driven, Lundy-penned track focuses on the importance of being “in the fellowship”. This is certainly one for the repeat button. In The Fellowship flows into the melodic and harmonic tune, All These Things I Do. Four members of Extol take turns on the lead mic on this one. Musically, the song moves from an adult contemporary vibe and momentarily steps into an operatic stance. The lyrics speak of all the “things we do” because of the love of the Lord.

Sopranos open quite sweetly on the thoughtfully-written tune I Have Surrendered. The song is peppered with a beautiful string arrangement and finds MOM singing with strong conviction on the powerful cut. Showcasing his incredible songwriting talents, Lundy also contributes the song Born To Set Me Free. With a very traditional feel, the song centers around Jesus and the fact that he was born just to set us free. With a hypnotically beautiful melody, it’s certainly one of the strongest one of this collection.
