Joann Rosario - Joyous Salvation
By Peggy Oliver
Making a living with your voice can take a toll for the psyche when hindering circumstances arise. Joann Rosario faced throat issues, but never wavered to the left or the right in her faith. Now on the third CD, “Joyous Salvation”, this urban and pop effort mingled with Latin influences concentrates on Christ as the centerpiece, a trademark of all three Rosario recordings. The Radical For Christ alum, who counts The Clark Sisters and 2nd Chapter of Acts as her influences, had her first solo close-up under the guidance of vocalist/producer et.al. Fred Hammond, head of FHammond Music. “More, More, More”, the bone-chilling, Gospel radio smash launched a very promising start. After that debut, both singing and speaking vocal chords were affected for a short time; just another learning process, and perseverance for the Chicago native. International ministry also plays a role, especially as National Music Director of Maranatha World Revival Ministries, traveling to numerous countries with her father, Apostle Nahum Rosario. Recently, Rosario was seen on BET’s Lift Every Voice, and will join CeCe Winans for this year’s Always Sisters conference.
The grand opening invokes a live atmosphere as Rosario calls out everyone to lift Him up on “Restore To Me”, complete with a new attitude: “I’m restored…,renewed…,revived in Your presence”.
Grooving to old-school R&B dance hooks (i.e. “Best Of My Love” by The Emotions), “Glory To You” totally gives up self: “Whatever You desire, I’ll be what You require.”
“Traces” provides an encouraging commentary on God’s presence being inevitable, even when life can cloud our thoughts. Slithering rhythms fuel the ambient keyboard accompaniment.
In the vein of worshipping in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24), “More Than Anything”, co-written by Antonio Neal, reminds us to represent by pleasing Him in all things.
