Deitrick Haddon - REVEALED
By Em Fergusson
Connecting hearts and minds is what Deitrick Haddon has been doing since launching his Gospel music career years ago. The GRAMMY nominee and two time Stellar and Gospel Music Workshop of America Excellence Award winner has returned with an album that has already started experiencing award success. Revealed features an array of spiritually inspiring songs that address a number of issues faced by everyone.
Haddon's musical ministry continues to evolve. With each new release, the messages of hope and interconnectedness with God during crucial times in life, are heard and felt on each track. On the soulful, groovy tune, 'Go With Me,' Haddon challenges listeners to put their feet in front of each other and take a step out on faith. The album's opening track, 'Where You Are,' approaches the issue of faith from another angle. The song speaks from God's perspective: "I want to be right there/Where you are/Trust in me/ I want to be right there/Where you are." During such troubled times, Haddon says the message of Christ is important.
"It's funny how when tragedy happens, everybody prides themselves on helping each other," says Haddon. "That influenced my approach to the songs [on] Revealed…they're not 'religious' songs so much as spiritual songs that can appeal to everybody."
Revealed could be considered an album that addresses everyday issues. The musical tapestry speaks to the heart by encouraging, admonishing, declaring praise and a sharing with listeners of various backgrounds. Tracks, such as the emotional, R&B-flavored, 'Running To You' is a conversation between the author and God, while 'I'm Alive' is a declaration of being alive in Christ. The lyrics on 'Running To You,' acknowledge God's greatness and recognizing that humans are limited. "Oh, I'm wiling to go all the way/ And I'm willing to seek your face/ So I'm running, running back to you." The heartfelt cry to God is both touching and rejuvenating, as it lends words that are often sought, yet hard to express. Haddon has managed to reach the hearts and minds of listeners.
