Cadia
By Em Fergusson
A new female duo is in town, eager to share encouraging words through their music. Best friends, Tori Smith and Courtney Myers, both 19 years old, make up the music group, CADIA. Both girls have been performing Christian contemporary music for years. After becoming best friends in the seventh grade, they experienced their formidable teenage years together. The girls then banded together to address issues that every teenager faces in this country, including self esteem and the search for true identity.
The album is compiled with pop/rock tracks that deliver the themes of honesty, empowerment, compassion and confidence in God. The first radio-friendly song, Trust In Me Now, delivers an uplifting message of strength. The words encourage and soothe those in need: "Even though you feel alone/Even though your strength is gone/As your weary heart just tries to hold on/Even if your faith is lost/Even if it's hard to trust/In a love that would let the rain fall down/Trust in me now…" The girls feel their ministry can impact anyone however, they feel a certain affinity towards teenage girls.
“I just want to be real with these girls. I want to tell them that I’ve been in their shoes, and I know how hard life can be," says Courtney," Life isn’t always chocolate and roses. Sometimes life really stinks. But that’s okay. Building a relationship with Christ is a journey, not an event.”
Tori agrees, adding, “You’re not always going to feel beautiful, and we totally understand that. We don’t always feel pretty. We don’t have it all together. We are not perfect; not even close to it. But because of that, I think girls can relate to us. It gives us the opportunity to meet them where they are.”
Meeting their audience is what CADIA is all about. The name 'CADIA' comes from the Greek word arcadia, meaning place of peace, which symbolizes the peace found when fears, insecurities, and trials are released. The fast-paced track, Radiate, speaks of the peace derived from letting go of fear, loneliness and despair. Each stanza offers comforting spiritual solutions to radiating the power that God bestows upon us. The focus of radiating is to allow the light to shine from within, the lyrics explain.
