Donald Lawrence - The Law Of Confession Part 1
By Em Fergusson
Buzz continues to circulate about Donald Lawrence’s newest release, The Law Of Confession, Part 1. The album, recorded live at Live Word Christian Center in Chicago, IL, was inspired by a series of teachings by Reverend Bill Winston, Lawrence’s pastor. The thematic message that rings throughout the project highlights listeners receiving and abiding by God’s word. Lawrence explains the title, by saying: “A law is simply a principle, based on the predictable consequence of an act. Confession in the Greek language is homo-logeo which means to say what has been said. There is a spiritual law for confession: you just say what God has already said…`Speak the Word.’”
Lawrence has been blessing fans around the world since he reshaped gospel music with a refreshing twist, when he surfaced with the Tri-City Singers in the 1990’s. With The Law Of Confession, Lawrence has fashioned a colorful album with a number of upbeat, inspiring songs with lyrics that pack such a powerful message. Listeners will be transformed listening to the lyrics from each song. Lawrence heads up the first track, The Word Of The Lord, a psalm that talks of celebrating God’s word, a spiritually sound power that keeps families together by creating a lasting sense of peace.
Title track, Law Of Confession opens with Lawrence’s well-known voice, describing the concept of the album and explaining what the law of confession is about. Lawrence tells listeners: “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me: that’s how you make this law of confession work. On the days when corporate giants and people that are much bigger than you, you say, ‘Greater is He that is in me, than He that is in the World.’ That’s how you make this confession work for you!”
The theme of taking God’s word is also heard on the upbeat, hand clapping, Let The Word Do The Work (One Word Away). Listeners who have been out of touch with their spiritual side, will get down with this track. The high-energy track features up and coming rapper from Brooklyn, Brother Hahz. Addressing issues, such as the difficult economy and holding on to the promise that God will take individuals through difficulty, listeners will definitely hit the play back button on this song. Following the same message of holding to the promise on Let The Word Do The Work (One Word Away), the melodious, affirmative ballad, There Is A King In You, testifies of the power of God within hearts and lives. Lawrence encourages listeners to rise above their personal issues and reach out to the King inside. The song is powerful, uplifting, and emotional.
