Stellar Award Nominated Choir J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise
to Record New CD/DVD “exalted” live in Baltimore Saturday, April 14, 2007 @ 6 PM
at the Church of the Redeemed of the Lord
The energetic Connecticut-based, 35 member choir, J.J. Hairston & Youthful Praise, will record their fourth CD in Baltimore, MD on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the Church of the Redeemed of the Lord. The church is located at 4321 Old York Road, Baltimore, MD 21212.
Concert is free.
Phone: 410-433-0426. The concert will also be videotaped as a DVD.
All three of the choir’s prior CDs have charted on the Billboard gospel sales chart. Their latest single “Incredible God” (from the Evidence/Light Records project “The Praise…The Worship”) has spent 30 weeks on the Billboard gospel singles chart and peaked at #6 in the Top Ten.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Hairston grew up in the church his grandfather pastored (Mt Sinai Cathedral) and where his mom served as the choir director. However, when he moved to Connecticut, he had no desire to sing with or direct any choir. It wasn’t until his friend Raheema Harrison was killed in a shooting that Hairston decided to turn his own life around. He did that by joining Central High School’s gospel choir and eventually, Youthful Praise. After about 5 years of being a member, he became co-director of Youthful Praise. It was then that
he began to write and arrange the songs that Youth Praise recorded.
When co-director, Shawn Brown, left to become a pastor, Hairston became the choir’s leader. Under his leadership, the choir has performed on the “Stellar Awards” and “Conan O’Brien.” They have also won two Stellar Award nominations.
