Saluting The Life, Dream and Vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
and Marking the Historical Inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama
 

Washington, DC - The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Day
Committee, Inc. will hold its Annual Dr. King Celebration in Washington, DC on January 17-19, 2009.  This year’s theme is “When Prophecy Meets Purpose: Looking Back and Moving Beyond.” The celebration will honor the life, dream and vision of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and celebrate the historical inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama as our 44th President of the United States of America.

The 3 day celebration will feature the Annual Black Tie Gala Reception, Gospel Musical Concert, Interfaith “Prayer, Peace, & Praise” Service, "MLK March and Rally on the High Ground with Wreath Laying Ceremony (Special guest; Mass 54th Regiment) and the Annual Celebrity Celebration Performance at the Historic Lincoln Theatre. (*Detailed schedule of events attached).  Local and national artists are also invited to share in the celebration, noted artists such as Stevie Wonder, The Winans, Kenny Latimore, Tony Terry, Melba Moore, Doug E. Fresh and many others have participated in previous celebrations.  Award winning recording artist, Maysa will perform during the star studded celebration. This year the Dream Keeper's Awards will be presented for outstanding service in the areas of education, health care, housing advocacy and community service. For more than 19 years the committee has provided a free weekend of events and activities for thousands of residents from the metropolitan area to attend

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Day Committee, Inc. is a nonprofit organization established in 1989, to educate and promote the National Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  The committee also assists in providing scholarships to high school graduates.  Students attend and participate in programs that provide them with leadership developmentand many other positive and productive programs that help enhance their lives.
