Two-time Grammy award-winning Christian music leader, Israel Houghton and his group, New Breed, has been wowing audiences since his 2005 Live From Another Level release. Since then, Israel has tirelessly gone on to produce, write, perform, and minister to thousands of fans around the world. His approach to worship is unique and his musical style prompts a riveting spiritual experience. “His music truly transcends all the genres,” says Gordon.

Another performer, NEWWORLDSON, is returning to the stage, following their spellbinding 2008 performance at the Ottawa Bluesfest. The four young men are natives of Kings Chapel, Ontario, who each play an instrument while performing. “NEWWORLDSON, even among all the renown artists, they were just the talk of [last year’s] festival,” says Gordon. “So we had to bring them back for 2009.”

Papa San, a Jamaican reggae, dancehall gospel performer, will also be part of this weekend’s line-up. Now an ordained minister, Papa San continues to be one of the most notable Caribbean gospel performers. “He will be closing on the event,” says Gordon. “… he is such a great tribute to those from all over the West Indies and represents them all well, especially coming from the island of Jamaica.”

Tickets cost $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Saturday, July 18 will feature a full day of gospel, Christian contemporary, urban gospel, and other types of gospel musical performances. On Sunday, July 19, the festival will close with a gospel urban lounge. For more information on the Ottawa Bluesfest, visit www.ottawabluesfest.ca.
