Kirk Franklin Named "Best Gospel Artist" at 2007 Bet Awards!

Los Angeles, CA - Kirk Franklin, the biggest-selling Contemporary Gospel artist in Soundscan history, was chosen as Best Gospel Artist during tonight's BET Awards '07 ceremony televised live from the famed Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Franklin was selected from a group of gospel musical greats also nominated in the same category including Shirley Caesar, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Dave Hollister and Mary Mary. The musical innovator is currently in the studio working on his seventh CD -- a follow-up to his multiple award-winning, RIAA-certified, platinum-selling CD, Hero, which still remains in the Top 10 since its release in October 2005.

The BET Awards is cable television's number 1 awards show, bringing together the biggest stars in music, sports and entertainment for a night of fabulous performances and unforgettable entertainment. The Awards recognize the achievements of artists, entertainers and athletes in 14 different categories. Comedienne, actor and author Mo'Nique, hosted the evening that included appearances by superstars such as Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Ciara, 50 Cent, Yolanda Adams, Stevie Wonder, T.I., Gladys Knight, Robin Thicke, Diddy, Ne-Yo, Erykah Badu, Chuck D and Usher among many others. Legendary songstress Diana Ross was presented with BET's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the award-winning actor and activist Don Cheadle was honored with BET's Humanitarian Award for his efforts to bring an end to the genocide in Darfur.
