Vickie Winans Has Highest Billboard Gospel Holiday CD Debut

The Hardest Working Woman in Gospel has earned the highest Billboard gospel sales album chart debut for a Holiday CD in 7 years. The “Happy Holidays from Vickie Winans” CD, which is on the charismatic singer’s own Destiny Joy Records label has come in at #12 on the charts after a week of Winans appearing on urban syndicated radio shows such as The Tom Joyner Morning Show, The Yolanda Adams Morning Show and ABC Rejoice Musical Soulfood.

Winans recently shot a hot new video on the lead single “Special Day” on location at the home of hit producer Fred “Uncle Freddie” Jerkins of Darkchild Productions. Jerkins also co-wrote the smooth urban- flavored, all-year round love song with Winans and Lashawn Daniels. The video will debut on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 10 a.m. on the BET cable TV network.

Winans has brought unique new arrangements and musical color to more than a dozen holiday standards such as “Silent Night,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” The upbeat “Holiday Jam,” an all year round urban celebration song will definitely have you dancing the holidays in! The singer’s entire family joins her on “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and her son, Marvin Winans Jr., shows up on the infectious “Joy to the World.”

Winans covers Michael McDonald’s “Peace” (dedicated to her late mother Mattie Bowman who passed away right before Christmas 2006 at the age of 83! There is a rousing rendition of “O Holy Night” sang by Denise Tichenor, who recently signed with Destiny Joy Records. Among the other treats on the set are the Motown-styled “Motown in Yotown Family Song” and “Mary, Did You Know?” Also, included, as a bonus track, is Winans’ latest smash single, “The Rainbow.” The album is dedicated to the memory of Winans’ close friend and song collaborator, Kayla Parker, who lost a ten-year battle with cancer earlier this year.
