Tyscot Records Founder Bishop Leonard Scott Celebrates over 30 Successful Years
What started in 1976 has become legendary status now for Bishop Leonard Scott; his label Tyscot is the oldest African-American owned Gospel Record Label in the nation.
Now the founder returns to his roots and releases a new 14-track CD and DVD “BE LIFTED UP” - Tuesday, April 15th in stores and online everywhere. BE LIFTED UP features stalwarts Darwin Hobbs (“Bow My Spirit”) Dove Award–winning Christian artist Rachel Lampa (“You Are My Source”), The Calvary Temple Praise Choir and more. This album comes on the heels of the 2006 “Hymns for the Nation and Hymns and Church Songs Live from Alabama” CD/DVD releases.
As a worship leader, he chose the title Be Lifted Up for obvious reasons. “The title cut, which is upbeat, is a song that’s based on the Scripture where Jesus says, ‘If I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me.’ In the midst of what we do, trying to save souls, we need to lift Him up, because that’s the way they are going to be drawn,” admonishes Bishop Scott. Other tracks include the skyrocketing up-tempo “Mighty God”, a powerful rock ballad “Lord You Reign”, the joyous “You Will Keep In Peace”, the beautifully structured “I’ll Pray For You” and more.
He pulls his guitar out to provide those classic strokes on the album and while featuring R&B/urban Gospel artist DARWIN HOBBS and contemporary Christian artist RACHEL LAMPA, he does not alienate his fan base. BE LIFTED UP quenches the thirst of Bishop’s hymnal fans with the “Closer Medley” which includes “In Your Presence,” “Close To Thee,” “Closer Lord To Thee” and “I Am Thine O Lord (Draw Me Nearer).”
Having a life-changing experience is the goal of “Be Lifted Up”. Bishop Scott wrote many of the songs on the release, which was produced by Tracy Williamson – Tyscot Records former label director.
