Gospel Music Hall Of Famer Richard Smallwood Performs at Democratic National Convention
Adding insult to injury, Smallwood was invited to perform at the White House's Black Music Month celebration this past June. “I received the formal invitation directly from the White House and graciously accepted it,” he recalls. “Not long after, my assistant received a call from the White House stating that because I had ministered at the retirement celebration of Rev. Dr . Jeremiah Wright, pastor of the Trinity United Church in Chicago Illinois , and the former pastor of Senator Obama, the White House thought it best that I not participate in the Black Music Month Celebration and the invitation was withdrawn.” Smallwood goes on to say, “So many of us are tired of politics as usual. The crisis that our country is in is because of this administration. The hypocrisy, the untruths have put a blotch on the very principles this country was founded upon.”
