The hills are alive with the sound of music and it’s a funky sound blasting from the mountains of Richmond, Virginia where a local group named G.I. is about to take their progressive urban sound  global. Through a partnership with Blacksmoke/Worldwide and their own label BGA Music Group, GI’s debut CD “God’s Image” will hit stores nationally on April 7, 2009.

Group member, manager, and BGA President and CEO Branden Anderson says, “We are highly excited about working with Kerry Douglas and everyone at Worldwide Music. Their success with James Fortune being #1 for 23 weeks on Billboard and now crossing over to the R&B charts, gives us hope for our music to make those same strides.”

Blacksmoke/Worldwide CEO Kerry Douglas adds, “I feel GI is the next big thing. Their message is relevant and able to reach the young and the old. These guys have a unique gift to reach both the churched and the unchurched.”

It’s a situation that’s been ten years in the making. The dynamic band has been in existence for a decade and as a result, they’ve become close as brothers. There’s Branden Anderson on keyboards and his brother Marlon Anderson on bass, Lamonte Harris on drums, and Curtis Langley on keyboards. In addition to playing their own beats, the band sings, dances and writes their own material. The group came together in 1998 when Branden was a high school senior.

The rousing first single “Get Up” is already making its way up the Radio & Records national gospel airplay chart. It’s just been picked up at KOKA in Shreveport, LA; WFLT in Flint, MI; WHLW in Montgomery, AL; WOAD in Jackson, MS and WXEZ in Virginia Beach, VA. The energetic video is currently in rotation on Black Entertainment Television (BET) and just the kind of warm vibe to help us usher in the spring.
