Atlanta McDonald’s Searches for Next Generation Singing Stars With  

The Gift™ Youth Inspirational Singing Competition  

-- More than $20,000 in cash and prizes at stake; entry form and rules available now at area McDonald’s restaurants

ATLANTA, February 24, 2011 – In the next few weeks, Atlanta area youth will have an opportunity to step into the spotlight and audition for a chance to win more than $20,000 in cash and prizes. The Greater Atlanta McDonald’s Operators Association presents The Gift™ Youth Inspirational Singing Competition 2011, a multi-week competition to find and showcase solo musical artists and groups between the ages of 9-15 from all over Georgia. Auditions will be held at various McDonald’s restaurants March 5, 12 and 19.

“As a father, I hold opportunities very dear to my heart that impact Atlanta’s youth,” explained Donovan Groen, president of the Greater Atlanta McDonald’s Operators Association. “My family and I have been personally inspired by how the young contestants in The Gift competition reach for the stars and make their dreams a reality. Our local McDonald’s owner/operators are fully committed to the community and providing a launching pad for these musical stars.”

The Greater Atlanta McDonald’s Operators Association has hosted as many as 1,500 auditioning participants since its first competition held in 2005. The most recent winner of The Gift competition was MaRah Williams of Tucker. The high school junior, named Miss Fulton County’s Outstanding Teen in 2010, also volunteers at the Alliance Theatre, the True Colors Theatre and Georgia Special Olympics.

The Gift competition is designed to expose youth to successful career opportunities in music, performing arts, marketing and related fields through education, technical tools and life skills assistance.

Interested participants can now visit any Greater Atlanta Area McDonald’s restaurant to pick up entry forms for a chance to enter The Gift competition.  

Open call auditions will be held on the following dates at these restaurant locations:

•           Saturday, March 5: McDonald’s Restaurant, 5174 Riverdale Road, College Park, Georgia 30349

•           Saturday, March 12: McDonald’s Restaurant, 2320 Salem Road, Conyers, Georgia 30013

•           Saturday, March 19: McDonald’s Restaurant, 5710 Fulton Industrial Boulevard, Atlanta, Georgia 30331

Audition line-ups begin each Saturday at 8:00 am with auditions beginning promptly at 9:00 am. Only participants with proper Georgia residential and qualifying age documentation are allowed to audition.

The first-place overall winner, to be determined in a final competition April 3, 2011 at TheRialto Center for the Arts, will receive a prize package including a $2,500 education fund and $5,000 in cash. Other prizes include a demo CD, vocal lessons with a trained vocal coach, appearances on local radio stations and more.Second-place and third-place winners will also win cash and prizes. 

Sponsors for the event are The Greater Atlanta McDonald’s Operators Association, Coca-Cola, Atlanta Parent Magazine and Tree Sound School of Sound.

Throughout the competition, participants and their guests will get a chance to sample quality products from McDonald’s including the restaurant’s new Fruit and Maple Oatmeal and McCafé Real Fruit Smoothies.
