Rejoice! Builds Homes In Jamaica
Irving, TX -- Making gifts and pledges in tremendous response to the Rejoice! National Day of Hope on January 24th, Rejoice! Musical Soul Food radio network listeners and supporters across the country made the day an overwhelming success with donations totaling over $140,000 to build 55 homes for poor families in Jamaica in partnership with Food for the Poor. The day was filled with outstanding live interviews, calls from celebrity gospel artists including Vicki Winans, Cece Winans, and even a surprise call from Wally ‘Famous’ Amos in support of the effort, according to Willie Mae McIver, program director for Rejoice and VP, Radio Programming for Urban Choice Media, Inc.
"We are so grateful to the Rejoice staff and its listeners for making this such a successful radiothon", “We were especially thrilled by the tremendous responses of people who called in to help these poor families” said Sydney Henry and Nick Adams of Food for the Poor.
As a part of its Rejoice Renewal commitment to help revitalize urban communities worldwide, Rejoice has set a goal to build 2,000 homes in Jamaica in 2007 and, 6,000 homes over three years. Although, the network’s first National Day of Hope has ended, pledges and donations are still coming in strong and through their continued efforts many families will be blessed with sturdy new homes. Individuals may continue to contribute through 1-888-505-7400 and the network website www.musicalsoulfood.com, both of which provide information about the overwhelming need for adequate housing for the poor in Jamaica.
